~ The
Questions ~
Introduce
yourself! Divulge your life's vision,
likes, dislikes, aspirations, or something completely random!
I am a homeschool “grad” who is about to graduate college. I
love (to think I love) crafts, reading, and wasting my time on Blogger and
Pinterest. I have participated one year before at least, but since I usually
cannot settle for just one favorite and sometimes my answers can depend on my
mood or what books I have recently read I prefer to give newish answers.
What, to
you, forms the essence of a true heroine?
Someone with a spine and sense . . . who isn’t a cat.
Share (up
to) four heroines of literature that you most admire and relate to.
I like Ivy from Swift and
Nomad, but I am afraid I relate to
all the wrong characters such as Marianne Dashwood and Emma Woodhouse (her
snobby ways anyway). I envy Anne Shirley/Blythe and Emily Byrd Starr their
imagination and creativity, but I am afraid I imitate their snobby ways.
Five of
your favorite historical novels?
Eagle of the Ninth,
Outcast, Warrior Scarlet, Lantern Bearers, Silver Branch, Sword Song, and Shining
Company. Yeah, I read like ONE historical fiction author pretty much.
Out of
those five books who is your favorite major character and why?
Aquila. Because.
Out of
those five books who is your favorite secondary character and why?
Esca. Again, because.
If you were
to plan out your dream vacation, where would you travel to - and what would you
plan to do there?
Ireland. I would visit every castle, gorgeous sea coast, and
historical spot I could as well as try to find any unique little corners I
could. I want to hear Irish Gaelic speakers, hear Celtic music, and watch
dancing. I would also buy a Claddagh ring.
What is
your favorite time period and culture to read about?
Anything but recent decades pretty much. I prefer European
culture to American.
You have
been invited to perform at the local charity concert. Singing, comedy,
recitation - what is your act comprised of?
Running away and hiding.
If you were
to attend a party where each guest was to portray a heroine of literature, who
would you select to represent?
It would depend on the costume probably. At the moment I
adore Elsa’s dress and having been thinking about how I would make it for
myself. I can claim she is a literary character because Frozen is based off of Hans Christian Anderson’s short story Snow Queen which I haven’t read, so I
really don’t know how much it correlates . . . so yeah.
What are
your sentiments on the subject of chocolate?
I want to take advantage of the post-Valentine’s Day
specials. Dark chocolate, truffles and special chocolates, caramel with milk
chocolate, and perhaps dark chocolate with raspberries.
Favorite
author(s)?
How does one even answer that question? See last year’s answer for
a technical response.
Besides
essentials, what would you take on a visiting voyage to a foreign land?
Every frill I owned, a ball dress or two because I could be
invited to a dance or so I can dance on the moors and mountains.
In which
century were most of the books you read written?
The twentieth.
In your
opinion, the ultimate hero in literature is…
Hilarious. He must be awesomely, epically funny. Shallow,
maybe but WHO CARES! If he is sweet and brave that is lovely too . . . okay
alright that is essential too, but I don’t always like perfect heroes; “heroes”
just have to show the latter traits sometimes.
Describe
your ideal dwelling place.
Away from all the people. Okay, with enough breathing space,
say a whole street length away.
Sum up your
fashion style in a short sentence.
Old-fashioned and frilly.
Have you
ever wanted to change a character’s name?
Eugene? It is Flynn. Oh, sorry literary. I am sure I have,
but probably not from a favorite book.
In your
opinion, the most dastardly villain of all literature is...
Chauvelin. Oh, wait. He never catches Percy. Ha, I mean, name
best villain. Hey, how about the cold-blooded Phantom. Just so I can cause some
controversy, I cannot think of a good villain, oh wait, the Phoenix and Radu
Bey in Ashtown Burials are both
pretty creepy. I can think of more villainesses it seems. Oh, the Keeper and
the King Under Stone from Entwined and
Princess of the Midnight Ball respectively. Oops, it
was just one and literature. Well, I haven’t read enough well-written, dark,
classic literature to decide that. I prefer happy thanks.
Three
favorite Non-fiction books?
Erm, non-fiction, what is this? Proceeds to Goodreads. Hmm, I
have read non-fiction, like 10% of my total. I will get back to you . . . in a
year.
Your duties
met for the day, how would you choose to spend a carefree summer afternoon?
I will pretend that I am not addicted to the internet and
say reading and knitting.
Create a
verbal sketch of your dream hat - in such a way as will best portray your true
character.
A perfect pillbox/sailor mix hat (for which I do not know
how to even find a real name/term) with a birdcage veil or maybe a soft veil
and perhaps a silk flower or brooch. Completely impossible (I am everlastingly
trying to find the “perfect” of such and such accessory) and of course over the top (I wear make-up, earrings, and skirt/dresses [and sometimes heels] to an university
to which most people wear jeans, leggings, and sports clothes).
Share the
most significant event(s) that have marked your life in the past year.
I have now reached the apparently, according to Lydia
Bennet, embarrassing spinster age of 23. Yeah, my life is sooo interesting.
Share the
Bible passage(s) that have been most inspiring to you recently.
Well, my mom has been texting me Philippians 4:8 when school
bothers me.
